A national recycling facility in Kansas City required detailed as-built documentation to support ongoing upgrades and electrical system planning. Waste Management engaged OAR to deliver a 3D model and point cloud of the facility, enabling precise remote coordination and minimizing on-site disruptions.

The challenge

The client faced frequent delays and misalignments during system installations—often caused by incomplete or outdated documentation of the existing conditions.

With dense equipment layouts and extensive electrical systems, the absence of reliable data was driving up project costs and increasing rework.

About the project

Our Solution

OAR provided a full Scan-to-BIM service to document the facility’s current state. Using 3D laser scanning, we created an accurate point cloud and built a detailed Revit model of the space, including mechanical and electrical layouts. The deliverables included:

Registered Point Cloud

Navisworks NWD file

This data empowered engineers and VDC teams to coordinate remotely, take accurate measurements, and avoid clashes—without additional site visits.

The Results

The client gained a verified, digital record of the facility’s layout, accessible anytime for design, planning, or compliance needs. The model significantly reduced installation errors and allowed project stakeholders to collaborate efficiently from any location.

By resolving uncertainty upfront, OAR helped the project stay on schedule and on budget.
