Libby Museum Structural Monitoring: Verifying a Decade of Wall Movement in a 1912 Landmark.

The Project
OAR partnered with The Turner Group to evaluate the structural integrity of the Libby Museum of Natural History in Wolfeboro, New Hampshire. Built in 1912, the historic building showed signs of wall bowing during a 2014 scan, raising concerns about potential structural deterioration. The Turner Group needed precise, actionable data to monitor changes over time and guide preservation efforts.
A century-old structure. A decade of unknowns.
The project required protecting the architectural integrity of a century-old museum while identifying real structural risk. The Turner Group needed to assess whether the wall bowing observed in 2014 had worsened over the following decade, and needed high-accuracy data that manual measurement couldn’t achieve to support confident, data-driven decision-making about preservation.
Scan it precisely. Deliver it fast.
Advanced LiDAR Scanning
OAR deployed laser scanning technology to capture the museum’s interior and exterior with high precision, establishing a verified record of the building’s current condition.
Comprehensive Point Cloud Delivery
OAR delivered a high-resolution, registered point cloud providing a complete and accurate digital representation of the museum’s current state, giving The Turner Group a reliable baseline for comparison against the 2014 data.
Efficient Data Handoff
Data was transferred securely and quickly within five days, allowing The Turner Group to begin structural analysis immediately.
A decade of structural uncertainty, resolved in five days.
High-precision data enabled a detailed evaluation of wall bowing, guiding preservation strategies for the historic structure. Rapid data delivery expedited critical decision-making for future restoration efforts, and the registered point cloud established a reliable reference for ongoing monitoring of structural changes over time.
